It’s time for a Royal Commission on election fraud
Misleading, harassing phone calls? Instant-voters with no address? Not in my Canada. It’s time for the truth.
Media reports stemming from an Elections Canada investigation have revealed a pattern of election fraud, including allegations that:
- Voters were deliberately misled about the location of their polling station;
- Liberal supporters received harassing phone calls purporting to be from the Liberal Party; and;
- Thousands of “instant-voters” voted without giving an address.
Liberals are calling on the Conservative government to immediately launch a Royal Commission on electoral fraud to determine whether the Canada Elections Act and other Canadian laws are sufficient to protect the integrity of our electoral system.
The Liberal Party of Canada has also proactively disclosed its calling data related to the 2011 federal campaign in an effort to assist Elections Canada with their ongoing investigation. We are setting the standard for openness and transparency, and we expect that all other political parties will follow suit.
An independent, fully-empowered Royal Commission, alongside the Elections Canada investigation – and any possible investigation by the RCMP – is the only way we can begin to re-build trust.
